Maggie Tote Free Crochet Pattern

Imagine this tote on a fun picnic, a trip to market, or even line it (instructions not included for lining) and use it as an every day tote! It does have a base, and so it’d be great for a fun toy bag for a little girl!


Materials:
Premier Debrorah Norville Cotton Soft Silk
Weight #4 yarn
154yd/140m; 2.5oz/70g
78% cotton/22% silk
2 skeins: Teal (Color A)

Lily Sugar’n Cream
Weight #4 yarn
100% Cotton
  1 skein: White (Color B)
H/5.0mm hook or size needed to obtain gauge
1 Medium Button
Sewing needle/thread

Legend:

Gauge: 
7 sts and 4 rows in dc = 2” square

Notes:
1. The bag is worked in 3 sections: Base, Main bag and then the Handle.

Bag: 10.5” wide x 9” high



To begin
Using Color A, chain 8.
Row 1: Sc in second chain and in each across (7 sts).
Rows 2-17: Ch 3, turn; dc in each stitch (7 sts).
Round 4: * Using ends of rows on long edge as stitches, (dc, ch 1) in end of each row, working on short end (dc, ch 1) in every other stitch on side, repeat from * to end of round, do not join.
Rounds 5-19: Working continuously in the round, (dc, ch 1) in each ch1 space.
Round 20: Dc in each ch1 space.
Round 21: Sc in each stitch.
Round 22: (Handle round) Sc 4, ch 10, skip 10 stitches, sc 12, ch 10, skip 10 stitches, sc 8.
Round 23: Sc in each stitch, sc 10 in each ch 10 space.
Round 24-26: Sc in each stitch, sl st to the first stitch of last round to join. Finish off, weave in ends.

Flower
Back
Using Color B, chain 4, sl st to the first chain to join into a ring.
Round 1: Ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), dc 8 in ring (do not join here).
Round 2: (Sl st to next stitch, ch 1, dc, tr, dc, ch 1, sl st to same stitch) in each stitch. Finish off after 8th petal. Weave in ends.

Top
Using Color B, chain 4, sl st to the first chain to join into a ring.
Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), sc 6 in ring (do not join here).
Round 2: (Sl st to next stitch, ch 1, dc, tr, dc, ch 1, sl st to same stitch) in each stitch. Finish off after 6th petal. Weave in ends.

Finishing
Using sewing thread and needle, sew button onto side of handle. Slip flowers over button.
