Aurora Butterfly Hat Free Crochet Pattern

Such a pretty hat for a newborn baby as it sweetly frames the face!
Fast and easy to make!

Materials
H-5.0mm crochet hook (or hook to obtain gauge)
1 Skein in medium weight (#4 yarn)
Stitch marker (optional)

Gauge:
2 inches HDC= 8 rows and 7 stitches
Please check gauge and adjust accordingly.

Notes:
1. Pattern is worked in joined rnds.  
2. The first ch-2 will not be counted as a stitch, sl st to the first stitch of round to join.

Measurement:
Newborn
Circumference 13-14 in.
Height 5.5-6 in.



To begin:
Chain 4.
Rnd 1: 10 dc in first ch, sl st to beg dc to join. (10 sts)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st, sl st to the beg dc to join. (20 sts)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, dc in the beg ch-2 st, 2 dc in the next st. * dc, 2 dc in the next st, repeat from * around, sl st to the beg dc to join. (30)

Rnd 4: Ch 2, dc in the beg ch-2 st, dc, 2 dc in the next st. * dc 2, 2 dc in the next st, repeat from * around, sl st to the beg dc to join. (40)

Rnd 5: Ch 2, dc in the beg ch-2 st, dc 2, 2 dc in the next st. * dc 3, 2 dc in the next st, repeat from * around, sl st to the beg dc to join. (50)

Rnds 6-10: Ch 2, dc in the beg ch-2 st and in each st around, sl st to the beg dc to join. (50 sts)

Rnd 11: Ch 2, dc in the beg ch-2 st, dc 10, ch 9, sk 9 sts, sl st in the next stitch (mark with a stitch marker), ch 9, sk 9 sts, dc in the next stitch and in each st to finish the rnd, sl st to the beg dc to join.

Rnds 12-14: Ch 2, dc in the beg ch-2 st, dc 10, ch 9, sl st to the next sl st from the previous rnd, ch 9, dc in the previous dc and in each st to finish the rnd, sl st to the beg dc to join.
Rnd 15: Ch 2, dc in the same stitch, dc 10, ch 9, find the first sl st from Round 11 (marked with a st marker), insert you hook in that sl st. yarn over and pull the yarn back through and pull the yarn tight, yarn over and pull through for the first sc, use that same sl st to sc 2 more times. (This will ‘pinch’ the rows together.) Ch 9, dc in the next dc and in each stitch to finish the rnd, sl st to the beg dc to join. Fasten off and weave in ends.
